Zuri won Owner Handler Nationals Best of Breed! During the Nationals Show Zolna won the dog class and an award of Merit and Zuri won Best Bred by Exhibitor and Select Bitch.

Collapse!

We had a huge snowstorm of 10 inches of sleet and heavy wet snow. Our pheasant pens collapsed and about 100 pheasants escaped. Eric is in FL for dog shows and it was just me, the kids, and the rest of the dogs. Luckily, we have an amazing family and my brother came to the rescue – taking vacation time off of work to help me. Once the enclosures were up again, we figured we would go hunt down some pheasants!

Addition to our Kennel

We are so very excited to announce the addition of Zolna Garamparty to our kennel. We were lucky to meet Zolna at Zoldmali Kennels when he was about 11 months old. Then had the opportunity to see him hunt and in action in early 2022 in Hungary. We knew we wanted to add this amazing dog to our kennel. We are so blessed to have a relationship with Zoldmali Kennels that we could add him to our kennel when they were ready to let him go. He definitely made himself at home!

Puppies and friends

Quill’s litter is getting ready to leave and we did our bird and wing testing with them. We also had a returning family come to pick up their new Quill pup, a half brother of their older dog, Crunch. Crunch visited with his Mom (Quill), Dad (Delceg), and Quinn (full-sister). We had 2 lovely litter born from Koli and Odessa!

WESTMINSTER

We are so blessed and pleased to see a dog we bred win a title at Westminster Dog Show. GCH CH Pivot’s Weekend at Ernies (aka Ernie) won Select Dog at Westminster. He has been expertly handled by Stephanie Hentschel for much of his showing career. This very goofy and independent dog is one we are proud to have bred! This was our second appearance at Westminster and both times we have come away with titles won here!

EARLY SUMMER ADVENTURES

Dogs helped with getting the farm ready and going for some long runs. They enjoy the doggie pool to cool off. We had some friends visit us for a walk…can you pick him out?

Koli and Tessa share a special bond. Koli is very patient with Tessa and Tessa knows how to be gentle with Koli

DOG SHOW

Megan took Delceg, Zuri, Quinn, and Ernie to the Bloomington, IL dog show over Memorial Day weekend. She wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of her friend Tracy with her whv, Jarvis, and her friend Bekka!! The Wirehaired Vizsla Club of America hosted a specialty on Sunday and there were quite a few whv over the weekend. 14 were entered, which is a large number! We had a great show, Zuri won Best of Opposite everyday except for Sunday in which Quinn won Best of Opposite! Ernie won Select a couple of days and Delceg was a good participant (poor guy who is a Hungarian Show Champion doesn’t get a lot of love in the USA).

AKC HUNT TESTS

Delceg, Koli, Zuri and Megan went to compete in an AKC hunting test. It was a great experience and one to be repeated to earn their AKC titles. Koli earned 2 legs towards her Junior and Delceg and Zuri each earned 1 leg towards their Juniors. Megan ran all 3 dogs each day, while 6 months pregnant!

Delceg kept a close eye on the other dogs competing before his turn!

QUILL'S LITTER

Quill had a great litter with Argo (Sudden Valley's Spitfire JH NAVHDA NA1 ). It was wonderful seeing these pups develop. It was a very even litter across the board, that were quite advanced. It is always exciting and sad to see puppies go to their wonderful new homes. Its exciting when a 6.5 week old pup points.

GEMENC!

We are so very excited to welcome Gemenc to our Kennel. Gemenc came from Dolgos-Nimrod Kennel in Hungary. Thank you to breeder Roland for this wonderful girl and thank you to Zsofi for helping facilitate us getting Gemenc. She is a dedicated, very obedient hunter with an incredibly sweet disposition. We were also blessed to find Charlie to be her home for us. Charlie and Gemenc have formed a special bond and we are excited about welcoming Charlie and Gemenc to the Pivot Kennels Family!

HUNTING TRAINING

Zsofi and Maugli came again for a visit and a hunting training at our Game Farm. It is very exciting to have different groups of people. It was wonderful to see old and new friends alike. We hosted Ron with the Hunting Dog Podcast which aired April 17th.

CANADIAN VISITORS

We had some great visitors from Canada coming through on their way to a hunting test/competition. Anton with Sarga kennels came by to get a little training and a visit in. Our game farm had some birds over-winter just for spring-time training.

PHEASANTFEST 2022, OMAHA NE

Megan, Delceg, and Kolibri took part of the bird dog parade (along with one other whv) representing the Wirehaired Vizslas. We then were able to walk the exhibits and meet hundreds of people through the expo that day. Many people were impressed with their obedience and calm attitudes.

QUINN'S FIRST LITTER

Quinn had her first litter with Robin (HJCH Robin Du Domaine Saint Hubert AV VAV OTV). This was a fantastic breeding with very nice puppies. They had a lot of socialization and quite a bit of testing before we picked the homes for them. This litter had a lot of bird drive.

TRIP TO HUNGARY

Eric was gracious to take over the house, dogs, and 2 year old so I was able to go to Hungary! I had a great time at Zoldmali Kennels with Zsofi, Laci, and Maugli. We hung with dogs, went to a European Dog Show, attended a hunting expo, and best part, was able to participate in a 6-hour, 300 pheasant hunt with the Holland & Holland Hungarian Shooting team. It was the best experience to be along and see Zsofi, Laci and all their dogs in action.

The hunting style was very unique, the shooters were incredible, and why can’t we dress like the Hungarians do when they hunt??

WINTER 2021

HUNGARIAN STUD

We were blessed to be allowed to host Robin (HJCH Robin Du Domaine Saint Hubert AV VAV OTV) for about 2.5 months. We bred this sweet loving boy to Quinn and Odessa. Unfortunately, Odessa’s breeding didn’t take after tests, she did have a reproductive tract infection and has been treated for it. He was also bred with 2 other females from other kennels that produced some beautiful pups.

Robin was goofy and loving and it was a pleasure to host this Hungarian Stud.

HUNTING TRAINING

Zsofi and Maugli came for a visit and our Game Farm hosted an informative (and very cold) hunting weekend. We had a great turn out with almost 20 dogs for a couple days. It is very exciting to interact with that many WHVs and see all the levels of training and ability.

Rezi and Quinn came for grooming. Rezi did great for 3 hours of grooming for the day but needs even more! Some before and after shots with all the hair we had taken out so far.

Quinn is in the middle of being groomed in these pictures (first picture on the left).

Ernie and Odessa went out to show with our handler Stephanie for a couple weeks. They had some good wins!

VISTING HUNGARY

Eric and I had a great trip to visit Zsofi, Laci, and Maugli in Budapest, Hungary. We spent the week at Zoldmali Kennels having amazing walks and swims with the pack. We also went on a wild bike ride (according to Zsofi an easy 30km ride)...faulty bike, random downpouring thunderstorm ended in delicious street food and an hilarious (and wet) train ride back after only about 22km. Zsofi and Laci also showed us some of their favorite (and most beautiful) place in Hungary, this was an adventurous and most memorable of trips!

JUNE

BUILDING PHEASANT ENCLOSURES

We had friends and family help us build our first pheasant enclosures. We put 2 side-by-side so each can hold about 375 pheasant. It was hot work. We had an amazing night with 12 friends and family that came to help hang the netting on top. We made brats and had beers but got it up. That was some hard work!

MAY

SEVERAL DOG SHOWS

We attended several dog shows, MN, WI, and IL. Including the Wirehaired Vizsla Club of America's support show in Bloomington, IL. We had some good days there. Odessa won several majors, with one point shy of her championship. Ernie and Zuri also took several wins. It was a great show with many WHV!

START OF A GAME FARM

We are blessed to be able to purchase 100 acres of old gravel pit to start a game farm. It has been in scrub grass the last 15 years and is only 2 miles from our home. We are so excited to start this new adventure! We planted out some birds to get a feel of the ground.

APRIL 10TH -11TH

2021

AKC FIELD TRIAL

Megan, Delceg, and Ernie tried an AKC field trail. This typically involves riding horses. We didn't have a horse and were going to walk the trial. There were so many wonderful people from the Central Wisconsin Vizsla Club and loaned us a horse to observe others participating in the trial. This is a totally different type hunting that involves your dog running 300 or more yards ahead to treelines or patches of trees. The judges definitely don't want to see the field quartering we typically use in bird hunting. We are on horse back so we can cover 300 yards fairly easy. Delceg went first and had a beautiful honor. Unfortunately, he was disqualified when the first dogs handler rode up quickly on a horse behind Delceg and spooked him into moving. It was still fun to run. Ernie ran the next day and did his whole run. He didn't score as the pointer he ran against got to all the birds first, but Ernie had some natural honors. I also handled him from horseback. He was at first confused, but quickly adjusted. It was a fun experience to learn but probably not the type of hunting we would do.

APRIL 1ST - 4TH

2021

BIG DOG SHOW

Megan was brave and went to the Fond du Lac dog show with 5 dogs. Eric was brave and stayed home with 9 puppies and Tessa.

It was a great week with one of our dogs winning the breed each day. Quill and Ernie won several times. Odessa got a major as did Ernie. There was a huge and awesome dog park we went to each day for some good walking and some obedience training. It was a great show for us!

KOLIBRI & JACKSON'S LITTER

Kolibri had a successful natural whelping of 9 puppies. It was a rambunctious, happy litter and Kolibri did a great job. Her first time out for a walk about 2 weeks after whelping she was incredibly excited. As soon as she got to the edge of the yard and realized we were walking into the field, she ran back to her pups. She wasn't as ready as she thought to leave them for more than 10 minutes.
